School has stated again. Well for some of you--especially the parents out there.

Instead of going month by month (what I've been doing so far). What is your goal for the next few months? What big goal (or goals) are you working towards? What are you looking to get from achieving those goals?

Being a student myself, my main goal for the next couple of months is to stay on top of my classes. The closer I get to graduation, the closer I get to being able to practice magic more.

As far as magic goes, my goal is to get my routine for my stage show down to where it is practically flawless. Of course something will always go wrong on stage but that doesn't excuse not striving for perfection during rehearsal. I've updated my Doubting Thomas project and have finally finished it. I don't think I made it quite clear what it was in my first trailer so I made a new one that shows that it has nothing to do with object through the hand and included a tutorial of the invisible deck routine using a regular deck with the spectator doing most of the work. I also teach string through the hand and give you credit for giving me the idea in the tutorial. I might self publish it but I don't know as of this time. But to sum that up basically just getting better at practicing magic and creating it.

What am I looking to get from achieving these goals? Well for school, hopefully a good degree that will get me a decent job. But that's a few years away. As far as magic, I just really want to entertain people and inspire people. I want my stage routine to make people feel like they are something special and I want my creations to help those that want to learn magic to have the confidence to perform them.

What about yourself?

As soon as you said 'Doubting Thomas', I remembered you! How's it going? I was worried that you went radio silent after your initial thread in the magic forum. Glad to see you didn't give up on it!

All right. The twins started school last week and I haven't been able to get into a good sleep routine as I do all my practice with magic and cardistry while they're asleep. I'm now up way too early and go down when they do. I feel so old.

As far as cardistry goals go. I ended up learning the mechanics to three flourishes in about 2 weeks. I have hope that I can polish them and have my first cardistry video done my the end of this year. I just need to scope out locations and cheap editing software that doesn't end in 'indows Movie Maker'.

For magic. Backstory. Initially, we were going to be in Las Vegas for another year or two and I was setting up a show for the children's hospital there. We ended up moving to Texas very abruptly and they have their hospitals set up VERY differently (I can't do a strolling routines AT ALL) and I ended up overhauling what I was setting up. It'll be A LOT better because they actually stream live performances in the hospital. I'll end up using less material, but what I need is A SMIDGE harder to find. So right now, the goal for fall is to locate and acquire the last 3 trick for the one hospital show and start practicing the routines in full.

Actually the advice from the forum really helped. It made me realize I didn't communicate what the trick was well enough because everyone that it was object through the hand. Because of the advice you guys gave me, I went back and shot additional tutorials on what Doubting Thomas can do such as Invisible Deck with a regular deck that the spectator shuffles. I of course had to include string through the hand and will probably upload a video of that performance once I have it filmed. I just teach how to do it for the tutorial.

That's awesome that you do shows at children's hospitals! I've been thinking about doing that with a magic buddy of mine but haven't found the time due to being a busy student. Once I'm finally done with school, I should potentially have more free time to pursue my magic passions. Best of luck to you!

One of my goals this Fall is to finally splurge and get a DSLR of my own, which I can use to finally start making my cardistry project (and maybe a few magic effects I've created over the years). I've always had a vision in my head but never had the equipment to execute it, so once I get all my equipment I can finally get started!

I'm tightening my stage script and putting touches on a very original comedy escape.

I'm also fixing up my close-up show so that it is a bit tighter and cleaner.

I also have some magic projects in the works.

My not-magic related goals for this fall are:
-Exercise every day (have to gain mass )
-Read 15 minutes a day (this will be a tough one for me)
-Not procrastinating homework (even tougher :D)

Speaking about the magic related ones I want to:
-Finish my magic pdf about magic tricks with smartphones and maybe upload it on the wire
-Film all the magic tricks I have created and upload them on youtube
-Write a script of the tricks I perform the most
-Create a smooth transition from three card monte to two card monte that ends with a transpo (the presentation makes sense, but I have to find some sleights that allow me to perform it smoothly)

Good luck everyone and if you need motivation watch this (min 8:58 :D)

UPDATE:

I had to come to grips today.

Despite the motivational musings of Shia LeBouf; polishing 6 flourishes, as well as learn to do them comfortably in front of a camera in 2 months, is actually not as realistic as I'd like it to be. I selected my final 6 flourishes WAY too late in the game. In fact, it's been downright stressful to get it in order for the last couple months.
So I'm taking a break from that project and I'm going to complete my first cardistry video WAAAAY into next year.

This fall ill be placing all focus into the following for the next 3 months:

- edit the 8 routines for the hospital show
- learn AND polish the flourish 'French Manicure' for one of those routines.
- I know there's NO way I can get it in 3 months, but I at least want to be able to learn and actually DO 'Raise Rise'. I don't care how sloppy it looks. I just want to stay focussed on it this time and be able to have the mechanics down by the end of Fall.
