Hello T11 Community!

Just thought I would share something with you today! Nothing ground breaking, but this has worked BIG TIME for me at my kids shows. You may have noticed that card magic at kids shows can sometimes fall flat (Kids forget/ cannot name their card, don't understand color changes, etc.). I found a card effect that REALLY WORKS at kids shows... POKEMON CARDS!!!

There are hundreds of things you can do with pokemon cards and you can buy them for pretty cheap in large quantities (order bulk "Commons"). The routine I do is "Card to Pocket" with a fun folded card to Pokeball at the end. The kids love it and it is easier for them to remember PIKACHU than ACE OF CLUBS. :)

What do you guys think? What else can you think of to make classic magic more "Child Friendly"?

I've actually been very curious if Pokemon still works today as it did when I was younger. I'm actually glad it can still work! It's great to have something that kids can relate to in a magic show. Makes it a little bit tough since there is SO MUCH that kids can be interested in these days.

As far as making classic magic more child friendly? I think any trick that one can tweak so that it looks like they did the magic works wonders.

I have a routine I'm practicing where I have a deck of all double blank gaffs except for one card with a rabbit. The whole routine is to show how fast the rabbit is jumping through the deck using a pass, Clipshift, and Raise Rise (to show a slower hopping up the deck). I think there is a lot of potential in the blank gaffs in kids shows because a Four of Spades is nothing to a child. A signed card by THEM, a drawing, Etc. a good mind can make double blanks a powerful weapon of choice.

I have a routine that has a Pokemon 'surprise ending' (that I have yet to test out).

Except at the end you pull out a ball with a Pikachu in it. Pokemon Power Bouncer, to be exact. This, getting the prediction completely wrong.

OR. You do the routine using Pokemon cards instead. Ha!

Again, I have yet to test it out or give it a fine tuning, but that's the skeleton of it.

That routine would be great! maybe let them choose the packmen card they like, then the one that matches is the selected one! and the box can be a pokeball! haha awesome!

I can figure a way to make that work. It's completely doable! But man, that's going to put a strain on my Budgety, Budgety wallet! 90's toys.

But then again, the name of the name is making what's old becoming new again.

Also, you say you find their card in a Pokeball. Does it look something like this?

Just when I thought this forum couldn't get any better :O

These ideas are brilliant! I still have some of my Pokemon cards left, and I have a Pokeball that I could use for a reveal.
Thanks for sharing this!

In the past I used some old Magic the Gathering cards for TnR routines. Because my friends were seriously into MTG, this effect appealed to them because they could relate to it.

That is what it is all about mate, appealing to your audience. It is these ideas that make something even more enjoyable depending on your audience. And you don't even really have to change any of the handling that you learned before either. Just adapt methods you already know. One of my friends does a sort of sam the bellhop type routine but with "Frozen" cards for little girls birthday parties haha
