Hey guys! Hope everyone is having a great start to the weekend!

Anyone else find that even after their decks have been retired because of heavy use, they still keep them around? I can't bring myself to ever get rid of them! For example, I always take out the Jokers of every new deck and stack them up, so eventually I can make a full mixed deck of Jokers with all different back designs. Doing some cardistry with a bunch of different back designs is quite satisfying to my eye, so that's what I use the extra cards for. What unique ways do you use your cards and/or tucks? I may "borrow" these ideas for my own use....

Please post your entries to THIS forum thread by 11:30pm EST tomorrow, Sunday, August 17th.

What can you win? 1,000 Elite Member Points and 6 decks of your choice that are currently in stock!

I save some of them as spares for signed cards routines, torn and restored. I also don’t care if they get too dirty if I retire them so I try to see how far I can throw them outside trying to be like RSJr.

I always keep them, most of them I display neatly on my shelves.

I take so much care of my decks that I never ran into this issue. Then again, I've only been collecting decks since what, like 3-4 years yet?

I think I would be using the most used ones for cardistry practice, like when I know that the move I'm about to practice is about to end up bad, that's when I'm gonna use that specific deck :p

If you clean the faces/backs and then peel off just one layer..you could glue the cards to an inflated balloon with liquid paper glue (doesn't work as well with the stick-glues). Then if you pop the balloon (when the glue dries) you get a hollow balloon-form of cards. Cover a light bulb with that and you get a great geeky-night lamp

I love doing 3d cut outs of the back of my used and older playing cards. It definitely gives an older deck of cards a new look to admire when practicing cardistry.

I keep the jokers when they have cool art or have a secret reveal on them. Others I just collect i have a hard time throwing them away.

I'm planning to make some card sculptures from worn out tucks and cards. Also a framed set of cool looking aces or jokers would make amazing artwork on the wall.

As previously mentioned, some cardistry moves are easier with worn decks while others unfortunately require almost brand new decks.

I use an old deck of Nocs for magicians to sign, so they can eventually sign the backs as well as the fronts.

I use old decks as “math flashcards” for my elementary class to play addition games.

(I too put the jokers aside) but I help run an after school/summer program for the middle school in my area. My goal each session is to get each of my students their own deck of cards. We end up doing a lot of things involving playing cards since they’re affordable and we get no funding. Just last week we made hand fans from some retired decks I brought (just glue 5 cards together and a stick and you’re good to go) my sister has a lamination machine which is a great help for making cards into bookmarks and keychains for their backpacks (your avengers cards are the most popular), some wear their favorite card as a necklace or the parents of a few hang theirs from their lanyards. As for the tons of tuck boxes I had left over I decided to make them into little emergency first aid 🩹 kits (a few bandages and ointments and cotton balls and some tape) for the kids to keep in their bags for if and when they would need them.

When a poker or spanish deck breaks, or at least some cards from them, I combine them with a big stack of cards to play a spanish card game called Ace, Two, Three or Clock ( As, dos, tres o Reloj). The more cards the better for that game (and the most people) and the back of the cards doesn't matter at all. I usually play with a combined deck worth of 5-6 complete and used decks when I play with several people. And yes, I have at same time poker and spanish cards, because you only really need the number of the card.

I use old decks to help level or space things. I learned that from a woodworker! It’s a good way to micro-adjust a level or spacing when building something!

I cut a small piece from the back of each card, then glue them onto a blank deck to create a unique, patchwork design. The result is cards with a completely new back design, made up of tiny fragments of decks that have been well-loved and retired.

I like to collect my extra cards and keep them as memorabilia, a reminder of the cards I’ve had before. Every now and then, I’ll take one from the stack and make it part of my EDC, mainly so I can use it to practice padiddle whenever and wherever.

If I'm performing for a friend or at an event, I'll have them sign an old card and write a note. It's like when we used to sign t-shirts as kids, just now on cards, which is easier to bring around.
