Re-entering Magic

Hello! After several difficult times and a wrist injury, I had to step away from doing magic to recoup and believed that era of my life was over. But after a summer with kids wanting to learn magic and getting to teach it to them, the match has been struck once more lol.

I don't intend to lean into it professionally (at least not for a while), but have been out of the game for about 7 years – any recommendations/help/resources would be super helpful since it's been some time. I left off being pretty decent at close up but am fairly rusty and have small hands (barely bigger than an iPhone). So that combined with wrist injuries does make palming a challenge, but I do still love close up magic and would like to improve upon that some more.

My default routines with kids has been half gimmicks and half actual tricks but my current repertoire is mostly geared for adults, so anything I could possible do with them would be helpful too since I'll be working with this same group some more for my day job.

If you have any suggestions/updates/resources, please send them over!

Congrats for getting back in the game. I've done this a few times myself when I've been gigging with the band so much that I have to put the magic performances on hold. What worked well for me was to pick up a copy of the latest magic magazine from the nearest magic shop (a few miles away but worth the trip).

Coming back, it was always surprising to note how little had changed in the sleight of hand arena. But, of course, lots of new effects, especially when a famous performer has appeared on TV or online with some mind-blowing effect.

Thanks for this! Honestly, I'm finding that that's been the case so far. I'm still in and out, with life getting in the way of being able to dive back in all the way, but it's been fun getting to see what people have come up with recently while getting ready to do a small show for a city college.

I also had one of those annoying situations recently where I was trying to sort out a payment issue online and ended up going down a rabbit hole looking for reliable review sites. Weirdly enough, Fast Payout Casinos https://alphanetworks.io/ actually helped me out because it made it much easier to filter out the sketchy options and find platforms people said were actually dependable with withdrawals. Not related to magic, obviously, but it did save me a lot of time and frustration that week.

Welcome back! Honestly, teaching kids is a great way to get the spark back. I’d probably start by rebuilding with self-working or low-strain close-up material first, then add sleight-heavy stuff back in slowly once your hands and wrist feel solid again.
