I've always wanted to go to a magic shop and I think that going to a magic wouldn't just be like going to the grocery store or mini-mart, I think it would be an experience on its own. So if anyone knows of any magic shops in Houston, Austin, or San Antonio, please let me know.

Thank you in advance!

JCR Magic Shop is pretty great, but thats based on my one visit there.

As far as I know, there was only one shop in Austin. Unfortunately, I went by a few months ago when I was in town and they've closed up shop for good.

There IS one here in Houston. Its called Frankels Costume. The magic shop is hidden in the back and you have to ask whoever is working the counter specifically for magic. They'll call in the guy and he'll take you back.

I hate having to speak badly about my only local magic shop but beware - it will be awkward. If you want to browse, they WILL watch you. And I mean watch. Ever since I can remember (even when the shop wasn't hidden) you had to be escorted to and from the magic part and had to be monitored by an employee because "magicians can palm things."

I also have to add that the magic guy can be quite rude. I haven't had very many good experiences there and generally ONLY go if I need something quick and easy (double backers, double facers, pack o' loops, etc), otherwise I just stick to ordering online. I wish it didn't have to be this way :(

Really?! First I think that's pretty awesome that there is a hidden magic shop in Houston, but now I'm iffy about going. How did you find out about it?

I think it'd be a good idea to check it out, I just wanted to give you the heads up so you know! I grew up here in Houston and it's been here forever. I probably heard about it from one of the local magicians when I was younger. If I'm not mistaken, Danny Garcia used to demo stuff there back in the day. I was never around during that time, though.

I've lived in Houston all my life as well and I've never had the chance to go to a magic shop so I will definitely check it out. Thank you so much!

No problem man! You should check out HAOM as well if you haven't already. It's the Houston Association of Magicians and I'm pretty sure they meet the first Monday of every month. I started practicing magic around 6 years old and didn't know about HAOM until I was 15 or 16 lol

Do I have to sign up or do I just show up? I'm 17 and I've only met one other person that practices magic.

They have yearly dues that you'll have to pay if you decide to join and that'll make any lectures they do that much cheaper. The yearly dues aren't that expensive anyways. If I'm honest, I usually pop in from time to time as a guest but I haven't paid dues in a long time since I really only go on rare occasion or if there is a lecture.

Here's the website I just found, I think it's pretty new too http://www.houstonmagic.com/index.html
