    This Hashtag Shouldn't Be Trending

We all are humans over anything else. The hashtag "Black lives matter" shouldn't even be trending because by now, 2020, about 130 years after the Jim Crow laws were created and about half a century since they were abolished, it should have become common sense. Yet, since we *are* magicians, it's...

    Managing Negativity

This is mostly for the professional magicians here. Performing magic (or even working in the ''other rooms of magic") is largely a creative field. Which means that it comes with its own share of difficulties. Which also means that it naturally seems more ''not practical'' compared to jobs...

    Do I need Card College?

I just love to look at EATCT and fawn over the entire history of the book (or 'lack of history' thereof). When I saw it, I fell in love; And Erdnase smiled, Because he knew. ( :D ) This is just so true. I have read the Card College books, I prefer RRTCM, ECT and other books by Hugard and...

    Second Deal Problems

Since this is great advice for practising in general, I'd add that you can just type "Online Metronome" on Google and use it without any sort of downloading. The number of resources easily found online is INCREDIBLE. Also, just saying, if you feel a metronome (though really really handy) is...

    airbender

Again, re-check your wrist angle. Face the right side of your LEFT HAND INDEX FINGER towards the right hand and try. Also, make sure your middle finger isn't applying too much of force upwards. Primarily the tension is being created by the index and ring fingers, the middle finger is just...

Colour changes of course. But I hope you're aware of the social repercussions of being an active user on Tik Tok?

    Advanced Level Card Moves

*gasps* Oh, so you belong to that camp... ( :P ) Which hurts a lot, to be honest. It's partly the reason why my brain automatically skips entire paragraphs when reading about a method that achieves the same effect supposedly in a ''better'' manner. Especially when the ''simpler'' method...

Best subjects taught in The Expert At The Card Table

This is so true. Both the books (with the exception of the magic vs gambling style of presentation) are pretty much similar. I view the EATCT as, say, the ''draft'' which culminated into the ''ECT''. That's just my way of thinking about the books, because the chances of ECT existing and being...

Best subjects taught in The Expert At The Card Table

I would definitely choose Expert Card Technique over Expert At The Card Table any day. Because ECT (and any other work of Hugard and Braue) is fantastically detailed and written specifically with magicians, and only with magicians, in mind. EATCT does have references to conjuring, but it often...

    airbender

If you are talking about Chris Ramsay's Airbender:- First off, try and post a photo of how your fingers are positioned on the card to be thrown the moment RIGHT before shooting it. This is how mine looks (so as to execute a beautiful Airbender, humble brag) Now yours might not look the...

    Ribbon Spread Message.

Be very careful of the orientation, as said. The number of times I decided to spell things out and discovered that everything looked Greek to the spectator sitting opposite to me, is embarrassing.

    Practice equals progress

True. I meant that but I should have mentioned it explicitly. Regardless, I think for cardistry specifically, performing sloppily is a stage in the entire practice process. Of course, the correct practice process. I was commenting more on the hard work vs smart work issue. :)

    Practice equals progress

It's fine if you didn't read the whole thing. You'll come back to it later, trust me. ;)

    Practice equals progress

Just a PSA to add onto it: Practice might equal progress but there's a lot of harm in wrong practice. The biggest harm is TOO MUCH OF TIME BEING SPENT TO LEARN A MOVE which could have been learnt in a week, with proper practice. Proper practice would mean watching the tutorial once. And then...

    What if...

I don't know if what you're referring to is really stooging. Then again, I don't have enough knowledge on the use or history of use of stooges. Regardless, I think what you're saying is just a really clever bit of thinking on your part. I also never thought that stooging is wrong, per se, but I...

What are your frustrations when learning magic?

Often discarding a move when it becomes 'satisfactory' and then realising that neither is it terrible, nor good enough to actually put into use. Which means the time previously put into learning it often goes to waste OR I have to invest more time to get back on the track with the move. My...

Slippery finger tips on card decks

"Slippery cards are good" Are they? I think you mean broken in decks. There's a difference. A deck is broken in when it's slippery enough for fans, clumpy enough for decent packet cuts, but neither stick to each other like velcro nor slide off your hands to end up as floor decoration.
