    bottom deal grip

While psychology would affect it somewhat, I'm sure climate also plays a role. As mentioned above, practicing with an old deck will help. Another tip I can give you is to wash your hands with some sort of soap that will dry them before sitting down, and when you need a slight tackiness, grip a...

    bottom deal grip

I'm not quite sure I understand you. If your hand was sweating, simply drying off the finger would give it a tackiness that would help loosen the bottom card, not make it harder.

    DRESSCODE ideas

I was under the impression online communities such as this one were to allow magicians to collaborate in order to succeed. Guess I was wrong... Not that I'm surprised, since I'm a piece of work. The point of gimmicks such as Smoke and Dresscode are to use your imagination. But I surrender...

    DRESSCODE ideas

Magicians don't try and do the invisible deck with every little routine they do. I don't see why smoking a sharpie and changing your shirt in public is any better.

Mr. England, thanks for clarifying above. On an off-topic note... I've heard that the Professional Poker Dealer's Handbook by Mason Malmuth is one of the standard texts on dealing used at a lot of dealing schools. What are your thoughts on it?

Thanks - I only knew of this case. I have no idea what the outcome of the previous two cases were. EDIT: Here's the link to the case I was referring to: http://www.magictimes.com/archives/2010/2010-06_07-spotlight.htm (The link is not to an actual news article, but rather, an interview...

    Cardistry - What's The Point?

I never said I don't use the same parameters for each case. For the record, I've never actually outright claimed cardistry isn't art. I said it depends on who's doing it. (Just so nobody twists my words 8 pages later.)

    Miller Shift Variation Feedback

Most of the conversation on this thread wasn't actually criticism. There isn't much to say. In fact, I'd LOVE any tips Joey can drop by, as he seems to have fixed quite a few angle problems, seeing as he does it from one of the worst angles to do it from on one of the two videos he linked us to.

    Cardistry - What's The Point?

You can't generalize art. I define art on a case-by-case basis. So I disagree.

    Cyril Takayama. Where is he?

They're not japanese. Atleast, I know Akira isn't. Shoot lives in the US, I believe - I've heard lots of stories about him still at the Castle.

    Cardistry - What's The Point?

I think the problem with this viewpoint is it considers all art the same. To me, there's a different kind of art between say... jazz and rap. But your arguments would seem to suggest jazz and art are in the same category, so if jazz is an art but rap isn't, than music is still art. (A rough...

I've got the Buckley book, but I haven't extensively read it. I'll check out the shift later. Doc's shift is a variation on the Frank Thompson shift, if you weren't already aware. And the Fast Company set is AMAZING - great teaching.

I believe the draw shift you're referring to is "The switch at draw poker", but I may be wrong. I'll check on that later. I don't own the Marlo book you are referring to. Doc's shift can be seen in his expose video. The only video I have seen of the Artanis shift is on the Fast Company...

What one-handed shift are you referring to? And what's the draw shift? As far as shifts go, there's only two I know of for a fact that have been used on the table. One of them is Doc's shift. Joey, you should be able to find the basics of it somewhere on the Cafe (probably in Secret Sessions...

He was never convicted. For those wondering how the court systems work in the US - even if you're found innocent at trial, to even be brought to trial (or even have your case reviewed by a jury for indictment), you are arrested. Charges were dropped on Forte. And to my knowledge, he's...

    Cardistry - What's The Point?

Read what he says in his later posts. If I say I hate a certain food now, and in 10 years I say I love it - are you still going to assume I hate said food? Based on the amazing discussion on this thread, I'd say it's safe to say his viewpoint has changed a little and is reflected in his...
