    Strong Magic, Or Seriously Silly?

Absolutely Strong Magic and you might as well follow that up with Designing Miracles or purchase both at the same time. They are well worth their money.

    color changing knives

The "maneuver" you are referring too is called the Paddle Move and is very useful with all types of objects. For example: You are in a resturant, pull out one of the knives, place a dap of Ketchup on one side, perform the paddle move and "Whalla!" It is now seeped through the knife and is on...

How many tricks should you learn?

Sitting down, joining the guests and performing was a style from the past that is still useful in some situations today, however a lot of strolling performers simply do not have the time to hit all of their tables if they sit and stay too long. If it is a private party and the guests are seating...

Spongeballs or Earplugs by Jay Sankey?

I believe "the reaction" comes from the presentation and emotional hook...not the props. I've seen amateurs mess up "killer effects" and get no reaction and on the contrary I have seen professionals take a worthless piece of junk effect and turn it into a "miracle".

    color changing knives

I believe there is a new version of this that people are doing with USB thumb drives / flash sticks...whatever you call them. This is great if you work in an office or are a h.s. student. You may want to check it out. It is called "Flash" by Chad Long.

    Is Thread Dangerous?

Not sure my man. I wear contacts as well and definitely have chosen NOT to perform this effect. Hope it clears up for you though.

    Gospel Magic

I'm actually headed to the Gospel Magic Convention in Pittsburgh this weekend. Would love to hear your presentation.

    Is Thread Dangerous?

I think you answered your own question didn't you? My guess is with the proper thread and practice, visine, etc. you can perform it perfectly fine once your eye gets used to it. I think it is a killer effect, but notice so far that every person's eye that I have seen perform it...is already...

    Printing gaff cards

If you are trying to combine 4....do you mean like Harry Anderson's Gang of 4 gaff cards? Because it is way cheaper just to buy those. I bought a few sets.

Tips or Wage? ~ more thoughts from JDG

Truly enjoyed watching your busking video. Wow...that looked great for your first time busking. I like how easily you developed the crowd on Take 2 and 3. Nice work.

Tips or Wage? ~ more thoughts from JDG

Jamie brings up a valid point, if the people at the table feel that you are requiring or wanting a tip, that is most likely what they will be thinking in their mind during your performance. "Oh crap, I only have 20 on me...I'm not giving this guy that." or "Oh...I only have two bucks on...

Magic Friday ~ by Jamie D. Grant

I do something similar at my school on Fridays. I perform the same effect about 10 times for classes in my school. I usually begin my Friday morning performing for our other staff members, then perform it for a few different classes, and then again for some other staff members towards the end of...

    Magic-Con 2011

I am hoping the wife will allow me to do this for my birthday this year. My bday is St. Patrick's Day. I may have to pay some of the funds though out of gig money so I better start saving.

How many tricks should you learn?

I always do my strolling with 2 sets of 4 or 3 sets of 3. In addition I always have one or two "finale" type show stoppers if the crowd is huge or someone of great importance is attending. Great advice Jamie D.!

    How much do you charge?

You want to be Vancouver's cheapest magician and still provide quality. Are you serious? Number one, you aren't going to be given much respect or much thought if you are only charging $25.00. Second of all, you are undercutting everyone else around you and your name will be drug through the...

What do you do with your custom decks?

I am completely with JB on this one guys. Use them. Create moments of astonishment with them. Why let them sit on a shelf so that once a month you can have a friend over and you can say, "Dude...look at these. These are worth $100. There are only so many of them left in the world." But...hey...

People messing up my tricks :'(

I have found that if you are performing and having fun with the spectators and not presenting the effect as a "trick" but more as entertainment, they tend to not want to ruin your effects. For example: Skinners 3 card monte. Instead of having them guess where the ace is, and get it wrong = they...

    Performing is...

Nicely done. The natural high JB speaks of is what keeps your inner desire to grow. You will continually want to expand your knowledge, experience, technique, etc. so that you can place yourself in more situations to experience that high. It is seriously like an addiction. I jump at every chance...
