I was doing card effects on the Las Vegas strip. I asked a spectator to choose a card and spread the deck. He picked one card while I dropped the entire deck. Don't try to catch them as they fall. You end up looking like a bigger jackass. He walked away.

Do the effects you are the best at. The most important thing is that you have fun with it. If you are having fun, then your spectators will have fun. To be more specific to your question I would suggest always starting with a simple effect that involves the spectator. The Biddle trick is...

You're first effect should be quick and involve the spectator. A transposition is always good.
