    Frustrating Situations?

I agree that sometimes knowing the method ruins the effect, but there is part of me that just loves some methods. I smirk inside when I read them. Sometimes, even when you know the method, it is amazing to see it performed well. I remember seeing Gregory Wilson perform a routine, explain it...

Things that I always wonder about

When you are performing with cards, you are demonstrating skill. It can be portrayed that way, but that isn't necessarily the only way to portrait it. There are card routines that look like skill and those that look like magic. Skill can be part of magic but magic isn't just a skill. True...

Things that I always wonder about

As a real magician and mentalist, I feel qualified to answer. Would a real magician carry cards with him? Possibly, if they liked to play cards. Better question is whether they would carry a Run Rabbit Run prop. Would a real magician say, he doesn't have anything on him, when he is asked to...

    Stage magic

Tim: What is the width and depth of the theatre? Two groups of 5 seats 20 deep? Two groups of 10 seats 10 deep? Are the seats rising as they go back? Is the stage elevated? What resources, books, DVDs/Downloads, effects, etc. do you currently have? What effects do you currently perform...

    Magic Theft

It takes a lot of effort, knowledge and creativity to be original. It takes no effort to copy someone who has developed the knowledge and exercised their creativity.

The Curse of Mentalism: "I bet they always pick the..."

A couple of thoughts to build on what Christopher said. First, the essence of the effect doesn’t seem to be strong enough to support any substance. “You think of number, I guess it.” Why is that significant? Add that to a presentation that merely explains the process (“I want you to think of...

    Frustrating Situations?

Actually, sitting in an office all day rather than being able to perform full time is the most frustrating situation.

Best place to buy the invisible deck?

I've ordered stuff from them in the past (only place you could get a jumbo force deck) and they had a printed list of the stuff they make themselves -- nothing like what is on the website. I'd call or e-mail.

    First posting here

Welcome to the forums. There is a good group of magicians and mentalists here. As for a name, how about Benjamin Sachs? There is a sophistication for using a longer first name and Sachs is an easy last name to remember.

Printing onto blank faces playing cards? - Any tips?

Neither ink jet nor laser printers will print on blank cards. The ink jet ink smears and the laser ink flakes off. You can remove the finish, print on the card and then try to put another finish on, but it ends up looking like crap. If you need to put something on a blank card (like a...

    isolation hands off principle

I'm not sure what you are asking for. What is the exact statement that you are looking for clarification regarding? I would say the "hands off", "isolation" and "sense of touch" concepts are more plots than principles. That is, they describe what the spectator is seeing rather than methods.

    Mistakes that cant exist...but exist..

Yes and no. The yes answer is that you should react to the audience, but only on your terms and when you decide that reacting will enhance your performance more than continuing with your script. As an example, in one show I said the line, "It would be a better trick if the selected card...

    Cups and Balls

I made up my own based on prior sleights. Some of the resources I used include Michael Ammar's book (which is available at L&L as an e-Book: http://llepub.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=32), Michael Ammar's DVDs (both of them) and the L&L's World's Greatest Magic Cups and...
