I would suggest putting the book down for a bit and trying again later. It's not a terribly difficult book to read, but may just take some focused reading... and a coffee.

What if you were able to earn rep points for good and helpful posts, but you were unable to "derep" people, meaning you got points for contributing, but couldn't loose points, thus eliminating the drama? It seems that this is the part people dislike.

Heh, I actually like the idea. I think the benefit of it would be that people would actually think before they post. I don't know if you would need to limit peoples posting ability tho, just don't allow those without a certain level of rep to give rep points. It would help people more easily...
