    Memorizing Mnemonica

What has worked best for me is what some might refer to as the Joyal method, but I am sure it has it's roots elsewhere. Put the deck in stack and then with a sharpie write the number of where the card is in stack on the back of the card. Then grab the 1st 5 - 10 cards and say the number and the...

Coin gimmicks make me so frustrated.

I have purchased from Lassen, Schoolcraft and Kueppers . I consider Todd a friend, but he can be hard to get a hold of. If you are set on a Lassen set, just be persistent. Also be serious about purchasing. All of the three mentioned make great gaffs. I have no complains, and I never purchase...

    Top change help.

Practice with just two cards doing an Elmsley type of exchange. Keep it continuous. After this is comfortable, move on to holding a whole deck in your dealing hand. Do the exact same thing you were doing with two cards. Also remember that the top change is going to involve misdirection and...

    How often are you fooled?

I have been involved in magic for over 30 years and still get fooled, and I love it. I am fortunate to have some amazing friends in magic that I can count on to stump me and bring back that amazement from when I was a child. I know a lot of card and coin magic, but I refuse to learn any stage...

How do I get used to cards?

Always have a deck of cards in hand. Use cards as your "Fidget" toy. Whether is is just spreading the cards, fanning them or cutting them. Don't be afraid of dropping cards either. As it was already mentioned, don't worry about difficult sleights, you don't need knuckle busting moves to be...

Gimmicks vs sleight of hand (coins)

They can easily coexist. When I am working with coins I will do completely gimmickless coins across, then bring in [ and do a coins across to the spectators hand and still end clean. Gimmicks and gaffs are just tools. Completely ruling them out can be crippling to your own magic and imagination...

How to take care of playing cards

There can be so many factors to this. I know when I first got into doing sleight of hand card magic, I was going through about 2 decks a week I was practicing so much. Where you are located can also effect the deck. I live in the humid midwest, so a deck can be opened and just sit and not last...

    Name your favorite lecture

I can only recommend lectures that I have seen in person. Dan Harlan, Michael Ammar, Nathan Kranzo, Josh Jay, Andi Gladwin and my bro Jason Dean. I loved all of their live lectures.

How much is a good price to charge for close-up

I completely agree. Maybe if you are a child magician just starting out $50 might be fine. I remember doing shows at a local daycare when I was only 8 years old and getting paid $25 back in the late 80's.

How much is a good price to charge for close-up

This will really be different from place to place and performer to performing. You need to look at your market, and then the value you put on yourself. I am a big believer of having different price points for different services of magic. Walk Around - Party Walk Around - Corporate Table...

    Two handed top palm

I can't remember how it is written in card college. But when I do the a two handed top palm I start to pivot the card out while bringing my hands up a bit and use my pinky of my receiving hand to as a pivot point. This usually puts the card in the perfect position for me at least. It might be...

    Where to buy Morgan dollars?

If you can, go to a coin shop and ask for the Cull Silver. These will be your "Soft" coins which must prefer to use. You can usually pick them up at just above the cost of silver. Probably going to look at between $7 and $10 a coin.

    Beginner Coin Magic

I can't speak for Innocent, but book wise Bobo's Modern coin magic is the bible for coins. DVD I would probably suggest Eric Jones' "Metal" series, he is a great teacher. I personally am more of a book guy, but I get the benefit of video. Budget wise Modern Coin Magic will be the most affordable.

    Magic stream

I have magic stream and really enjoy it for some of the older stuff, Justin Miller has some great things on there and there are a few projects on there that might give you a little extra. I also have ReelMagicMagazine and it is great for some of the extras that you get. Core Effect wise, that...

    Learning How To Use IT

There used to be a DVD called "Who's afraid of Invisible Thread" I think it was released by Jon LeClair. It was pretty decent. I've been trying to find more for reel work. I've had the original Spider Pen since it came out and have never used it except for a floating bill that I used to demo at...

    New Magic

Definitely show it to people you trust that have a good knowledge of magic. It's always nice if possible to have friends that have a different skillset and knowledge base to help with magic.
