Can I move the thread?

I've experimented with several different grips. I just cannot get that bottom card to pop out. It will always roll up under the inside of the deck.

Long story short, I ended up with the book 13 Steps to Mentalism by Corinda. I have never studied mentalism, so I was wondering if this book was a good place to start or if there was some other book in mentalism comparable to RRTCM. Thanks!
