How long have you been studying magic? If you have a library of books and have asked other magicians this will help your creative journey. Keep reading and keep researching magic. Don’t just use the web… research books ask other fellow magicians you trust for their insights on ideas you have.
Hope you have much success!

Was this a double post? I swear I responded to this already.

The problem is likely a lack of knowledge. You can't know what's new if you don't know what already exists. Keep in mind that magic has existed for hundreds, possibly thousands of years. Some of the most clever and intelligent people in history have contributed to the field. It's incredibly difficult these days to come up with something totally original.

Trust me, anyone who's created magic has recreated existing tricks, plots, methods, etc. I know I have a few times.

Personally I think the best course of action is not worrying about creating just to sell it. That's why the market is flooded with stuff that's not really practical for real world performances - people just trying to make something to sell.

Just practice, perform, and learn as much as possible. Eventually you'll come across a problem that needs to be solved. When you find that solution to that genuine problem, then you'll have a real product on your hands. That's how Aaron Fisher's "One Handed Popover" came about.
