Hi. I was wondering what books you like the best on sleight of hand card magic. I watched Jason England's little thing on his recommended books, but it is hard to tell which I would like the most without knowing what it has inside it. So, which books in your opinion contain the most useful material (most as in quantity) and that you would definetly recommend. I am looking to get some books so I am deciding which to get. I have five in mind so far, so if any come up a lot here, then those will be what I get. This is how I am narrowing down my selection.

If you want some of the best sleight of hand card magic in a book, look no further than this. I met him a month ago and bought this book. Eric Jones and I sat and watched him show off some of his card moves right in front of us and it was some of the best work I've seen. Jason England can probably concur.

Royal Road to Card Magic is a great resource for beginners, and also has a lot of intermediate to advanced stuff in there too. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't.

The Card College series! These are books details sleights, with accompanying tricks to help you practice the sleights.
Sounds exactly what you're looking for, yes? =)

I already have royal road, and I have done some extra research to decide which I think I will get next. Card college is on there. I have not heard of the one that Rick has mentioned. I think I will look further into that one a little while later. I already got a new one that I am starting to work my way through right now. Thanks though for your suggestions.

My actual favorites are Darwin Ortiz "Lessons in Card Mastery" and Woody Aragon`s "A book in English".
Both contain more material that I like than any other card magic book I own.
Woodys book isn`t very demanding on sleight of hand, although there is some soh, if you`re more into that, but the thinking and construction of his effects are just superb.
Darwins book is more demanding in that regard, from self-workers with very little soh to very difficult knuckle-busters. But great thinking and construction also. I really like his detailed description, which go much more into detail than the standard descriptions you´ll find in most books. It`s indeed more than just a collection of effects.
Jason England could say more about it. He was involved in the making and is a close friend of Darwin Ortiz^^

Sorry to have this info scattered into three posts, but I keep forgetting things...

Paul Harris' Art of Astonishment series of three books is one of the most valuable purchases I've made in magic. Legendary...

Oh. I know that book is not for beginners. Although I am not a beginner, I am still going to hold off on that for a little while though. I may have mentioned that I have royal road, but do not mistake that for me saying that is all I have. I am more advanced than that, I was just referring to the post about royal road. I also have expert card technique as mentioned and a few others. I just got expert at the card table to check out and am currently working through it. As far as your last question Rick,I was looking for pure sleight of hand books. I do not care as much for books on card tricks like self workers and impromptu ones. I know there are a lot of books like that out there. I was actually looking for something good that doesn't usually come up, just like you said Rick. I'm not interested in the classics for foundation building. Thanks though for the link. It doesn't hurt to read through that thread anyway. Maybe I will come across something I am interested in.

I'm glad you are getting Card College. That is a lot of material but it will provide you with an amazing variety of sleight of hand.

What else to get depends on what you want to learn and what your style is. If you don't know either of those, stick with just Card College for now.

The list Rick linked to is good, but not specific to card magic and sleight of hand. Woody's book A Book in English is great. Royal Road and Expert Card Technique are good too. But any recommendations I give you will be about what books I like, not what you would like

So, a couple of questions... What books and DVDs do you have and what effects do you like?

Back in Time
Take your time on Card College and try not to learn EVERYTHING in, just pick the routines and sleights you WANT to learn and go with that.
