I really like magic with the hot rod (The color changes are BEAUTIFUL looking) but I cant come up with a good routine for it and I was wondering if we could brainstorm some ideas to help me out.

Right now here is what I do---They choose a color, say diamond. I show both sides with the different gems, then I change ONE side to silver. Then, in another maner, I change the other side, then say that daiamonds, and especially magic arent forever, it will start to fade away, and make one side change back to multiple colored gems. then say but if you are quick enough, you can sanp and capture the magic on one side to have all diamonds on one side, and different colors on the other.

I'm not to sure if I really like the ending, and I dont know how I could put more stuff into the routine. It would be cool If we could come up with some kind of story to tell with it!!

Anyways, Thanks in advance for the help,

Robby

I do a great routine with an effect called "Slip Off Spots" It is a Hot Rod routine with a die that you can get the gems to jump off the die and land on the hot rod and the only thing left on the die is empty concave spots where the gems used to be.

My Patter: I talk about a Princess who had six very beautiful gems (I display the die with the gems on it" and say that she was so worried about a "smooth or slick" robber (introduce the silver smooth hot rod) who might one day steal them. The Princess locks the gems up in the bank...(throw the die into my tightly closed fist). The robber sneaks in the back door (run hot rod through your closed fist with the die in it) and steals the gems from the bank. Now you display the die without the gems and the hotrod with the gems. This gets huge reactions.

Then I say he proceeded to run out into the street only to get caught by a magician.
I do the paddle move and say. The magician returned the gems back to the bank.
Display paddle without gems.

I don't really see what's wrong with what you are currently doing.

Just some points to remember:
- Make sure you're not rushing through the effect. Slow it down and let every phase, every moment sink in with the spectator.

- Don't over-do the paddle move. Once or twice showing the front and back, fitting it to patter of course, is just right.

I personally like your ending. "If we catch it just right, we can actually capture a moment of magic..."

That's good stuff.
