just wanted to post this i wanted to know what cardistry means to you guys/girls mabye for some of you its a hobby and its just that or mabye cardistry means way more to you than being just a hobby mabye its changed your life in some way

whatever your reason i think it would be cool to hear everybodys stories
 
I'd have to say cardistry is a hobby for me; although; I do use some moves in my performances (mostly classical ones but still). Having a deck of cards in my hand is simply fun at any given time, and cardistry allows me to have that fun even while some people may enjoy it. I wouldn't exactly want to practice sleights anywhere so cardistry gives me the opportunity to build up my dexterity anywhere!
 
it means the world to me! its not just an art for me its mmore like a lifestyle, a religeon, but most of all, an obsession
 
The most awesome thing I have pursued as a hobby. I never frequently felt small moments of self-achievement from any other thing I pursued in the past. It's my strangely obsessing hobby.
 
Cardistry.... is a side.. side side hobby. Its kinda fun and allows me to work on some dexterity. But personality i would rather be working on perfecting my SWE shift, multiple cull, top shot, second deal, diagonal palm shift... or any other awesome sleight of hand move than juggling cards. Even though it is pretty fun. I just find that when i invest my time in learning new sleights im much more benefited than if i spend a couple hours practicing one flourish.

Okay, Cardistry is my main Hobby. I have been flourishing for about 2 years now. Cardistry has given me a certain level of confidence. It has made me value myself as unique. Usually I would get jealous watching videos of child prodigies, or extremely talented break-dancers ,but now I don't feel bad because I know I have my own hobby that I am very good at.

The Best thing about Cardistry is that it is underground and it is Challenging. Since it is underground not many people have seen it which makes the person preforming special and unique. Since it is challenging there are not many people that would even attempt to learn cardistry ,because cardistry was designed to look difficult and complex.

Overall, We should all recognize that we are extremely lucky for discovering and becoming a part of such a complex, impressive art-form. Since cardistry looks so complex to the public it looks as if you have been handing cards all your life. I love cardistry!!!

PS: the only thing I don't like about cardistry is the cost.........buying cards all the time has made a very deep hole in my wallet.

Where do I start?

Cardistry is far beyond a hobby, it's my passion.

I remember when I was 12 and first starting to pick up on it, I was excited about every single deck of cards I owned. I developed a habit of keeping everything, every record of every move and every card. It didn't matter which cards or what condition they were in, I kept them. I practiced with them.

I would sneak out of the house when my parents were at work so I can visit my local magic shops all around the casinos, miles and miles apart. Pretty soon, everyone who worked there knew me as the kid who did cool card moves. Not everyone approved though. There were many times when I was asked to leave. I came across a few magicians that would knock cards out of my hands as a mean joke. There were even more times I was told I should quit or just do magic instead because cardistry would never get me anywhere. I didn't listen and I was stubborn about my way.

One day, I convinced my mom to take me to a magic event called the "AOI film festival" and there I saw Homer Liwag and Chris Kenner - they were supposed to be really important people. I had no idea who they were - only that they looked faintly familiar. Little did I know that eventually I would be friends with them. Everything in my life came full circle. They were the guys I saw when I was a little kid half way across the world in the early 90s. The guys I'd seen on DVDs I would finally meet, work with, and learn from.

Cardistry is something that's been with me throughout most of my life. All the great things that came out of it was because of it. It's taught me many things. Never give up. Nothing is impossible. Be a rebel, don't listen to anyone, and pursue your goals with full force. Lastly, never go full retard. Ha!

I agree. Cardistry is such a versatile artform. It can be a hobby, passion, expression, and much more. What I find amazing in the art is the fact that it can be used to accent other arts or stand alone as it's own artform. I find it to share many characteristics with music and dance. People can take it far beyond the actual movements into a world of imagination and creativity.
 
What a great thread.
For me, cardistry is an art form that almost exceeds all others. I've always hopped around hobbies. Skateboarding, drawing, juggling, ect. When I found Cardistry, it captured everything I wanted. A tactile hobby, that was not only extremely creative, but challenging. It gave me a determination and drive to accomplish things, no matter how hard. And today, I want to see it grow into mainstream. I'd love to walk down the street, and see someone pull of skater cut or something. This is an art form for the soul. I tend to do certain flourishes when I'm in a certain mood. (When I'm mad, Sybil for example.) Just my thoughts.
 
cardistry is mainly a hobby for me. every once in a while during a performance, i do this joke where im like "just gonna give the cards a simple shuffle, nothing fancy" and then do the best flourish i know.
