Close-up on Stage

Hey guys,
I've been into close-up (mostly card) magic for a little over two years now, but I'm looking for some close-up tricks that work well on stage. I've used The Invisible Deck a couple of times for large audiences (30+ people) and it's been great. Anyone had any other close-up tricks work well on stage?

I don't think that material is best suited for stage. Although you could come up with a good levitation wit IT. If you see yourself doing close up on stage then I recommend some of Rocco Silano's work.

Mind me inquiring why you are attempting to stay in the realm of 'close-up' magic? There is indeed a reason it's called 'close-up' :p.

I myself dislike change, and learning a new genre of magic seems impossible and illogical. However stage magic is designed for high-impact and large audiences, just like close-up is meant for strolling magic.

Let me ask you, are you truly stuck on strictly performing 'close-up' effects on stage? If not, I have a million plus one recommendations for your routines. If you are looking to stay on the 'close-up' level with your stage performances I may be able to lend a helping hand out.

Watch some performances from Gary Kurtz and David Stone. These guys can rock close up in a stage setting. I recommend any of David Stone's 'Secrets...' DVD's, and gary Kurtz's 'Leading with your head' and 'Unexplainable acts'.

Well, I've had a couple people encourage me to do a "magic show" sometime at my school, and, depending on how much the word gets out and/or people are interested, I thought a stage show would be the best way to perform (as opposed to a clip on the campus TV station). With that in mind, I was just curious about what (if any) close-up tricks I could bring with me to the stage.

I'm actually working on "big" illusion right now, but it's still in the early stages and wouldn't be suitable for a live audience, but I'd be more than willing to learn some new illusions that would be suitable for a live audience that aren't too expensive.

I don't have a stage show just yet, (This thread, for me, is looking a couple of years in the future) but I think it would be best for me to start off with simple, "beginner" stage tricks and/or close-up tricks that also play well for large audiences.

Hope I cleared some things up...

I've seen some of David Stone's stuff. He's really good, and his tricks and routines are thoroughly entertaining. I'm not familiar with Gary Kurtz, however, I'll be sure to check him out as well. Thanks for the post.

If you want to get started on a smaller scale you could maybe check out some semi-stage magic. This style magic sits you at a table in the middle and your audience all around you. This can be great for audiences ranging from 1-50 people.

If you are interested in this style magic, which is mostly card magic, check out 'Bill Malone'. He has a 3 volume set called 'Here I Go Again' and a 4 volume set 'On the Loose'. Along with that, if I recall he has also released 'Bill in Lemon', but I think thats in his 'On the Loose' DVD.
