Coming Back From a Long Break

Hey guys,

After taking over a year off from magic, aside from several mediocre performances for family-friends, I have decided to come back. I saw Penn & Teller last night and it gave me that magic bug again.

I initially left magic because it started to feel like "work" instead of being a fun hobby. I was getting too concerned with learning every sleight and reading through each book meticulously down to each word. I became too overwhelmed with buying the right cards, collecting cards, buying the right books, scheduling gigs, writing patter, practicing everywhere I went. I was drowning myself in magic.

I just wanted to say 'hi' and ask if any of you guys had any pointers to keep me from quitting again.

Thanks,

Mehar

Honestly I would stop buying things and just pick like 3 effects that would make a good working set and start performing them over and over again for people other than your friends and family. You will become so proficient at those effects and their workings that you will become so excited to carry them everywhere with you and share them with everyone. Your patter and script will fall into place.

If you are like the rest of us you probably have tons of close up effects, cards, etc. just sitting around ready to be broken in.
