For all of the tricks in my current repertoire I need the following:
Double lift (push off or snap)
False count (to display a different number of cards or the same card multiple times)
Ellis loading move
Pass (standard and riffle)
top change
Shapeshifter
False shuffles (tabled riffle, in-hands riffle and overhand)
Various revelations (top shot, pop-out move, long distance spinner)
One hand top palm
Gambler's cop
Riffle force
Mercury card fold

I've used a lot more for tricks I have performed in the past, but they're the ones I use at the moment.

Double lifts
Color changes (Such as the Classic Color Change, Erndase Change, etc.)
Classic Pass (including the dribble and riffle variations)
Classic Force
Culling (See DVD: Roadrunner Cull, www.kostyamagic.com)
Palming techniques (both top and bottom palms)
Misdirection
Performance Persona
Creativity

And other things such as card loading, steals, false shuffles, peeking, etc.

These are the absolute musts.
