Does anyone know this trick?

I've always loved magic, but never pursued it. I was referred to this site by a performer I saw who inspired me to start. I know I'm a beginner, so this trick may not be on my level yet. But I'd really love to learn it, so I'd at least like to know what it's called, or if there's somewhere I can learn it.

He started by tearing a page of paper into four pieces. Then he asked me to think of an animal, but not say it out loud, and studied me before writing something down on the paper. He then folded the paper, and set it aside. He did this two more times with a number, and a color. Then he asked me what I thought of, and wrote down my answers on the last piece. After that, he unfolded each of the answers, and they all came out to be what I told him to write on the fourth piece of paper.

If anyone knows this trick, please let me know! And if you have any tips for someone who is literally brand-new to the world of magic and cardistry, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks.

Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic is my favorite for beginners, you can find it at most book stores, any magic shop or online. Plus it's relatively cheap.

as for the trick it sounds like a version of a three way test (a version is taught in mark wilson's) but mentalism isn't really my thing so i'm not sure
