Hey guys,

i just thought I'd share something I expereinced last night during a performance. As I was executing the sleight to prepare for the levitation in Shwing, I felt like I did something wrong. As the card rose, no one reacted. I asked anyway whether or not it was the right card, they said it wasn't. I openly admitted then that I made a mistake. I then asked them what the card was and slowly took it out of the deck. Everyone was still pretty quiet as they were not sure if I was kidding or not. I gave the card to a spectator. The, i mumbled to her in a soft voice to turn the card over slowly. As she did, I screamed "BOO!". This got the audience by surprise and shocked some of them. Afterwards it was simply laughed about. They actually admired how I was able to pick myself up from a mistake. I still continued performing other tricks and their reactions didn't go down but went up.

What I'm trying to show here is that worrying about failure in executing sleights shouldn't comepletely bother us. The main objective. as proven in the story. is to have fun and ENTERTAIN the audience. I did not succeed in entertaining them with Schwing but i did so anyway.

Another thing I'd like to point out is to try to incorporate one's mistakes into the act. I don't believe one should ever quit and just leave when they realize something had gone wrong. Magicians are entertainers and as long as you keep the audience entertained, you're doing your job.

Well done for picking it up again. At that point, I'd kinda lose the plot and the routine would squiff up or something crazy. Nice to hear about this - thanks for posting.
