Flip Card Resources...

Wow haven't posted in a long time. Anyways, I've been wanting to look into making gimmick cards that flip halfway done the middle, to change from one card to another. Does anyone know a source that teaches how to make this, or if they can, can someone tell me how to make a flip card? Note that I am not talking about a card that you flip with your hand. I remember seeing cards that automatically flip once released.

Thanks,
Rupayan

check out

The art of card splitting. This will get you into the methods of how to make that kind of card. He may not use it for that exact reason you want, but the construction is basically the same http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/859

Also check out Alexander Kolle's The Hawk, Hawk 2.0, or Xtension. xtension has a very simple and interesting method that may be the perfect solution for you. http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/2475

hope that helps.

Also getting Blake's video might be good.
I also have a link in my signature on how to split cards. to get you started.

Thanks for the resources! Thing is, I'm fine with card splitting, and I know how to do that pretty well. I'm looking more for the specific gimmick flip card. I have seen Xtension, but I was thinking more of something that isn't on the box. Hawk 2.0 doesn't use a flip card either.

Why a gimmick? I can think of at least 7 different sleights that will accomplish the same thing with little to no cleanup. Almost all of them are common moves that every card magician would know.

I understand that there are many sleights that can produce this effect, but with this gimmick, it can be done in a more... "Hands-off" way.

Some examples of what I'm talking about are:

Calen Morelli's Magic X Cardistry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehiRtXkv8kw&feature=plcp

Debuggermagic's Prototype: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7O1pvpVbvI

Note that I'm not some Calen Morelli fanboy (I do enjoy his stuff though) and I'm not trying to copy his exact style or "recreate" his trick. It is simply an example of the gimmick I was thinking of using in my own routine. Same goes for Debuggermagic, someone commonly associated with Mismag822.

Good point. I have never used gimmicks much, mostly because I never have them with me, and also because I find that most things can be done with sleights and appear nearly the same as the gimmicked versions. I can see where what you're looking for would be useful though.

Alex Kolle's cards are great, easy to make and thinner than usual blink cards. I would pick up his DVD that teaches how to make them yourself.

Also the hawk is a flip style card.
