I, like many, have been inspired in my life by the great and legendary comedian, artist, and profound and prolific speaker, George Carlin. Just before his death this past year it was announced that he would be honored with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor later that year. He never made it to actually receive the award, but instead it served as a memorial for him and his ideals.
The following clip is an excerpt from the ceremony where they play a clip (after Jon Stewart's monologue that includes some censored profanity) that shows George talking about the character he used to portray on stage, and why he had to change from it and just be himself. I think this is a clip that we as performers can learn much from, not to mention we as people. I see so many people who clone the old image of a magician and those that clone newer images as well. But thats as thin as... well, cardboard.
