Arthur Buckley

"A famous card expert demonstrates tricks that have left theater audiences amazed, and that card-playing professionals have used profitably. It is not a book for beginners. But these shifts, palms, glides, false shuffles, cuts, fans, steals and spectacular deceptions will help those with basic card expertise reach new levels of performance. Over 300 photos show Buckley’s exact hand positions during each move."

Card Control by Arthur Buckley is an awesome book. If you can find that I would get it. There is some great stuff in that and taught by a real pro. Buckley is a legend.

Of the magic books I have seen at regular bookshops:

Card Control
Expert Card Technique
Self-Working Mental Magic
Self-Working Close-Up Card Magic
Magic The Complete Course
The Art of Magic
Modern Coin Magic
Practical Mental Magic
Card Manipulations 1-5
Magic and Showmanship

These are all fantastic books I have seen and gotten from normal bookshops for cheap.

You may also find 'Royal Road to Card Magic', Bobo's Modern Coin Magic' and 'Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic'. I've see these in most bookstores and they are books that EVERY magician (no exceptions!) should own. And they are all really cheap to and contain hundreds of trick and sleights that you would need to spend a fortune on learning from DVD's/downloads.

You may also find 'Royal Road to Card Magic
I want to second Royal Road. There are some very clever ideas in that book that can be a lot simpler and a lot more focused on magic - as opposed to gambling. There are a lot of smaller, easier sleights that would have little-to-no use for a gambler, mixed about 50/50 with a nice focus on routines.

The section on the double lift alone from Royal Road was worth the cover price to me. The "how to" was basic, but "what to do with it" was great.

I also do have Bobo's, but haven't yet gained a real passion for coins. Silks ropes and linking rings make me happy.

If you would like to branch out then Dover Publications also tends to get these two books into some bigger stores: Abbott’s Encyclopedia of Rope Tricks for Magicians and Self-Working Rope Magic: 70 Foolproof Tricks. I have only read Abbott's, but there is some fun to be had in it.
