I took my wife to Las Vegas recently (without the four kids) for her birthday, and we went up to The Stratosphere Hotel to check out the magic store there. (yeah, the North end of the Strip is really, really dead)
On the second level they have quite a few shops, and one of them is Las Vegas Magic. We had the pleasure of chatting with Steve, the owner, and while there were plenty of the kitschy magic tricks that tourist traps like Houdini's sells, he had some honest-to-goodness tricks and plenty of magic books. I could tell my suspicions were correct when a gentleman came in while my wife and I were browsing and asked specifically for distressed-looking playing cards with blank faces. (I pointed him to MakePlayingCards.com, hopefully they can make a deck or two for him at a reasonable cost) Apparently he was working on a trick that would work better
