on Theory11.
I've just got a basic JVC handheld Mini DV camera, nothing special.
As far as an editing system, I just use Windows Movie Maker.

If you're still very new to video editing and the like, I wouldn't recommend getting the latest and greatest, biggest and baddest production equipment right off the bat.

A quick trip to Best Buy and you should be set.

A $100 Dollar camera would be a bad camera, a $1000 dollar camera would be an HD camera.

Also, it depends how good you want your final video to be.

With 1000, you can get a really good video camera. Go to your nearest electrical appliance store and get help from their staff there.

So I just got a camera about a month or so ago. It's a Cannon Vixia HV30, and its great. spent about 1200$ on it, a warranty, extra battery/ bag, and some HDV tapes. This camera is AWESOME, you will NOT be disappointed.

stop asking people online and go out and look for yourself...
here in canada i went to like 5 stores until i went to the source (was radioshack) and baught a hd camera which was 700, but on sale for 400 (last of its kind)

havent really used it yet...video/sound is perfect
as for editting, dont have a clue

I have a HD Camcorder, it's amazing. HV-20's are better than HV-30's.
They're the same camera aside from 30i capturing. The HV20 shoots in 24p whereas the HV30 shoots in both 24p and 30i. Yet on both it's not true 24p.

For the price, the HV20 is a better buy. Remember, HD doesn't always mean better quality guys! The sensors are what distinguish the best quality...

I have a dell computer, what's the software besides WMM and Sony Vegas I can get with that?
There is Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects. After Effects is for effects more than editing... but the prices range over 1,000$. There is Adobe Premiere Elements which is a lighter version of the Pro version but is still a great editing software for a cheaper price!
