While I understand the gist of the article and give you kudos around it, I must admit that I find the subject somewhat confounding at times, because it seems to apply to so many elements within "Magic" as a whole. For an example, Bob Cassidy referred to how I approach my work as being "organic" vs. the more traditional way in which Mentalism is presented because my style deliberately comes across as "real" and more so, I prove to the people I'm working with, that it's natural and anyone can do it. Even if I hand them a prop, such as a pendulum or dowsing rods, when they experience that "power" my claim that it is real and natural is instantly validated. It's an "organic approach" vs. the use of items within the environment like cell phones, ipods, and other such
utensils (besides that, I can't figure out how that stuff works let alone using them for effects)
I've seen this same thing pointed out in the most recent release of
Larry Baukin & Ron Martin and their views when it comes to the present day trend towards Urban Shamanism or what they call "American Folk Mentalism" (some very heavy -- awesome -- material). So I believe we really need to consider a broader scope when it comes to the idea of "Organic" Magic.
