How Do Magicians Handle Cash During Live Performances?

Hello everyone.

For those who perform magic at parties, restaurants, or other live events, how do you usually handle cash payments and tips during a performance? I’m curious whether most performers simply keep cash on hand or use some type of cash services or organized system for managing payments.

When performing regularly, it seems like keeping track of tips, deposits, and event payments could become difficult.

Do you have any simple methods for staying organized while also keeping the focus on the audience and performance?

I’d especially like to hear from magicians who perform frequently and have developed an easy routine for handling cash before, during, and after their shows.

I think keeping things simple is best. I’d use a separate wallet or envelope for tips and performance payments, then record everything after each event. For regular gigs, a dedicated bank account and basic spreadsheet can make tracking deposits much easier. I’d avoid dealing with cash during the performance unless necessary, so it doesn’t distract from entertaining the audience. A consistent routine of counting, recording, and depositing the money after each show should keep everything organized without adding much extra work.
