How to dull down coins?

Hey. I was wondering, how do you dull down a coin? Because my new shell is WAY shinier than the rest of my coins, and I've been called out on it several times already. Also, I want my coins to have that awesome looking ghostly aurora type effect, where the middle of the coin is darker than the sides. In coinTWO, Homer says using bleach and steel wool. Bleach just makes it shinier. Help is appreciated. Thanks!

Why not just shine all your coins & shell equally and let the patina occur on them together?

Failing that, I've seen something at the coin shop (can't remember the name) that puts a patina on a coin. Some liquid that's brushed on.
