anyone familiar with a book or a dvd that is a great collection of gaff or mechanical stuff, not necessarily pertaining to cards, but to other stuff as well. i saw a trick one time before, when the magician shows a deck case and takes out all the cards (poker size), and then suddenly he shrinks the deck case to a mini deck case!

Gaff related magic?

Try Richard Kaufman's 5X5 Japan. It sounds like exactly what you're looking for, is a great book with many different types of magic, and is pretty heavily gimmicked.

The effect you described was John Cornelius' Shrinking Card Case. Its freaking fun to perform.
As for gimmick/ gaff books and DVDs...
5X5 Japan. New Magic of Japan, both of these are great books for gimmicked effects.
Joshua Jay/ Joel Givens Sessions book is great. some heavy gimmicking, but boy are the effects amazing.
Martini/ Magic Makers have a Art of Card Splitting, which is quite fun.
Paul Harris' Stars of Magic is a great purchase. Some impromptu, some heavy gimmicks, etc...
John Cornelius DVDs are usually a good amount of material with gimmicks.
Wayne Dobson has some comedy stage stuff if youre into that
Swami Mantra is a great book just for some classic magic/ tricks.
Scarne of Magic Tricks has a great bunch of classic magic which requires something special.
