If so, does anybody know how the colour changing golf ball trick is done?

I don't remember it well enough to remember if it was a practical effect of cgi. I'm sure there's a few ways to do it though, what were the conditions?

if i remember correctly i believe it was just some billiard ball manipulation.

Yeah, just manipulation with a few different balls. White to red looked to me like a shuttle pass using two different coloured balls.
