Magic In Southern California

Hey, we probably all know this, but magic is not very popular. That's a good thing because if magic were to go mainstream, then there would be no magic. But it's also a bad thing because it's difficult to build communities and find friends with the same obsession. Anyways, i'm writing this post because I know a lot of people have a fear of approaching people on the street, and if you are one of those people who want to get over that fear, here's a chance. I'm planning on going down to the beaches of southern California to film magic, however i'm missing a partner. A partner that is willing to go and preform and willing to film. This is a chance to build that confidence that every successful magician needs, and also maybe even launch a YouTube career if you want. Oh yeah and we get to be buddies during the process ;) Anyways, if you're interested msg me on Instagram @jjfachie

First, don't assume that because your perception in Southern California is that "magic is not very popular" does not mean that is fact elsewhere, or even in California. You don't know, what you don't know. I prefer to take the approach that it is popular and based on that assumption, I naturally start investigating and questioning things that I would miss, if I ass-u-me it is not popular...! We call that a self fulfilling prophecy!

If magic went mainstream, wouldn't that mean that there would be more magic just not as original or mystifying as it is today?

To comment on magic being not very popular is best explained by a story I learned from Jeff McBride. Two shoe salesmen head to Africa to research the consumer base. One salesman says, "This is a terrible place to sell shoes. No one wears shoes." The other salesman says, "This is a wonderful place to sell shoes. No one wears shoes!" Decide which salesperson you want to be.

Best of luck with your street performances. I always love hearing that people are going out and presenting their art to the world. I hope that you will share your video performance with the rest of us because I'm very curious in checking it out. I just recently uploaded a street magic compilation of my own. I'll post a link if you are interested in checking it out:
