Psychology behind powerful effects.

We magicians know how important psychology is behind each effect we perform. Even the simplest card effect may release powerful reactions if used or performed with the right psychology.

What is the importance of psychology in the way you perform? Does psychology only play an important role in mentalism alone? Or does it also help in sleights and subtleties?
How do you incorporate psychology in magic? I would love to hear your answers..

Cheers,

Personally I think it matters alot! I always try to establish my self as a nice guy by getting eye contact while shaking hands with everyone I'm about to perform for.
One of the strongest effects i do is forcing a cards the pretend to read the palm of their hands.
For me it's great way to get real contact with the spectator and focus on performance instead of sleights.
It's a SUPER simple trick but when you do it properly it's pure mind reading to them.
I've done this over a houndred times and 90% of them has freaked out.
If you switch methods of forcing each time you can easily do this 10 times in a row for different people around the table.
I did it many times in a row a couple a weeks ago at a local bar and the reactions I got was incredible.
I finished with STIGMATA and they where banging on the table and grabbing their hair.
This is just an example of how important psychology can be in a performance, and fun too!

The why a trick works is almost MORE important than HOW it works.

A simple example: I transfer a coin from one hand to the other. (Unknown to them I sleeve it.) I then roll up my sleeves and transfer the coin from hand to hand as I do so. Now why would I move an object from hand to hand if it wasn't there? Regardless, it is more powerful because of this.

Same goes for holding another object or snapping your fingers while hiding something in your hand. People don't believe a hand can multi-task because most people can't.
