Smoke device

Does anyone know of a good smoke emitting device? I've heard Lynx is loud and faulty and the cube isn't meant for close up.
I'm looking for something you Can do close up and inconspicuous.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I really like the idea and size of Smoke Screen by Magicsmith, but at $100US and being unsure if I can get refill fluid I've held off from buying it.
