Hi all, always had an interest in magic and just thought I'd relate a possible sleight of hand that I was a victim of. I've been had by the Taxi scam where you pay the fare and the taxi driver changes the bill so you end up giving him more. He has his hand out and counts the money but somehow he manages to swap the bills eg you hand him a 50 and he swaps it for a 10. I was watching his hand but was tired after a long flight so have no idea how he changed the notes, can anyone here tell me please? I knew that I had to be vigilant with Taxi drivers and I thought I was, it has always bugged me that I didn't pick up that I was being tricked and would love to know which sleight of hand he used.

I want to say that this is a version of short change. With many short change scams there is very little actual sleight of hand, the short change happens from a psychological perspective and a reliance that the victim isn't going to catch common math mistakes.

Hi Josh, I am aware of the short change scams where the trickster uses confusion to trick the victim. In my case I was watching his palm, I turned away for a split second and he changed the note. As I remember he waved his hand slightly. It was very skilfully done. I just don't know where he could have concealed the note that he replaced mine with?
