The linking...

Hello,

I'v been thinking about close up linking item routines, for example, rubber bands, keys, rings, cards, headphones, mints, and any combination of the above. Although all of these items are different I feel that, for the spectator, they all create the same affect that is two objects impossibly linking together. This means that one would only really need one linking item routine (I'm sure that some would disagree with me on that point but it's just my opinion).

Two routines I'm specifically intrigued by are Linkey (http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/3351), and iLink (http://goo.gl/ikDgHF). Although I don't live the handling Jay using in his demo, I really love the handling Rick Lax uses for iLink in this video: http://goo.gl/1KrrcE. I really like the visual of taking an object and just pushing it up agains something else and watching it instantly link.

Anyway, to get to the point, what are all of you thought on linking affects. Which one do you use or like (if any)? What is you ideal linking affect? I just want to know what everyone thinks of linking affects :)

Thanks,
-Isaac

My favourite linking effect is Joshua Quinn's Conjunction, where you tear a single ungaffed playing card into two linked "rings". It's just beautiful, and more so because it's pretty much real. Actually, my real favourite is Ian Rowland's variation in which he's somehow created a paper ring and an aluminium foil ring, but I can't even begin to understand that and I want it to remain a mystery!

Well I have been working on the Messado Rings. I'm trying to incorporate it into my busking show that I am working on. It is a pretty awesome routine.

Don't get linkey. It looks good while doing the effect but the clean up is horrible. You'll also need to clean the gimmick regularly. It's a pain.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I wasn't going to get it anyway because you can sort of see the method in the trailer so I would be surprised if it worked that well in real life. I just like the style and look of it.
