The big thing you need to consider when it comes to the Cafe is that it is a marketing dreadnought; the management team insures the advertisers and of course the VIP writers that there will be loads of noobs from whose pockets they can pilfer from. I know that's a crass way of putting things but more than a few notables have pointed out that the ONLY REASONS they post there from time to time is to push product or special lecture dates, etc.
Yes, if one were to filter out all the B.S. you would find an amazing (encyclopedic) collection of awesome insights on a number of topics; material that young and old can benefit from. The question has to be however, "Is it worth it?"
Do you want to be a number used for statistics that allow the forum hosts to pocket big money and more via advertisers even though he (they) subvert your freedom of speech, your right to critique their "friends", and even your right to express your personal views when it comes to issues of faith/non-faith/ and politics.
On that front the Cafe is purely fascists -- dictatorial by degree, in that the top heavy management factor seems to have a very haphazard sense of right & wrong.
Personally I believe you will get better quality insight here and at E than you will on the Cafe. Another excellent site (though I've recently left it) is TalkMagic in the UK and to a lesser extent The Magic Bunny. Unfortunately, some of the best sources on line are invitation only with many becoming paid membership with monthly fees ranging from $5.00 to well over $50.00.
But as I said, it's a matter as to what you want from a forum and the sense of comfort the forum allows you. Personally, I don't associate with much of anything that wants to censor me. . . that includes spending long periods of time around the majority of my relatives.
