This Control

Hey guys,

I've recently seen a control used by Miika Pelkonen in his recent video Total Control. (If you've seen the video, you'd have to agree with me, it's phenomenal).

I also saw the control in a Ricky Jay video (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6LYjMHzQ_oU), at 2:06. The magician cuts the deck into four and fanned and then the aces are placed into each fan, and squared up, etc.

Any idea what this is and where it was published?

It looks like the Zarrow Shuffle. It looks the same to me. You can find it at http://www.penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=320. Tell me if you think it's the same. I'm fairly certain.

No, the zarrow shuffle is the one Miika does when he's shuffling face up cards into face done cards later. Emogician means what is the control used between 0:49 to 1:15

I recall a post in an old/new books thread here at T11, someone said that Card College "filters" the "good/bad" material of Vernon and Marlo.

And here ya go. This is a Vernon, Ricky Jay uses a tabled version ( which is the justified one on this context ), which makes the effect happen.

Study Vernon. For some basic work, learn the Vernon effect in Lorayne's first book, then study some Marlo, and you'll be there.

To be honest, I don't know the name of the specific control, but to learn it, I would suggest having a look at Marlo's work on the faro shuffle ("Faro Controlled Miracles", "The Faro Shuffle", "Faro Notes" etc.). Or, if you can find it, get the much more exciting "Faro & Riffle Technique" by Karl Fulves.

Yeah, sorry, should have mentioned, "The Faro Shuffle" and "Faro Notes" are part of "Revolutionary Card Technique", chapters 6 and 7 respectively. They are available on their own, or in the compiled book.

The book is reprinted in a new revised edition, so I advise getting it instead of the booklets.
