Tips on getting back into magic

Hey guys,

About a year ago, magic was my life and was all I liked doing. I was 14 years old and spent all my savings and time into learning magic and performing. Some bad things happened in my life, and I slowly started losing time to do what I love. Keep in mind I was VERY talented in sleight of hand and cardistry for my age. Its been 6-8 months now since I have performed live and I really want to get back into magic and cardistry, as I have put so much time into it. I'm now almost 16 and own so many decks of cards, tricks, and have still retained good amount of what I used to know as a magician. I also own many gimmicks and props that I just need some refreshing on. Any tips as to how I can really get myself back into the game? I'll be down to answer any questions.

It's okay sometimes to just admire from afar, or to think about magic and watch magic but not perform. Do it when you feel compelled, not because it's a chore. I backed away for 7 years and tried many times to push myself back into it but the problem was I was never accepting of the small amount of time I could commit. I wanted an all or nothing approach and my lifestyle no longer provided the time. Once I came to acceptance that it would be a very slow journey, at least for now, I became happier. Now I don't feel guilty if I leave my cards untouched for a few days, but I don't feel like I'm missing out either. It's a happy medium. I recommend just taking it slow, especially at first. Don't expect too much from yourself.

I'm doing the same with playing music right now. Played every day for more than 11 years, then stopped for 2, and now I'm struggling to get back into it. I'm just trying to find a new angle to approach it from, my music tastes have constantly changed and developed over my whole life, so I feel like trying to go back into my old routine hasn't worked at all. Find something new, but related. Why do you want to get back into it? What most interests you?

I totally agree with @RealityOne . Nothing can stop you from doing what you love.Yes , there will be hard times but believe me, performing and practicing magic will help you go through them. And as I can tell from your story you really love performing magic, and you should know that you belong where your heart belongs and your heart belongs to magic my friend!
