Twisted by Andrew Mayne
First off, I want to thank Justin of iTricks for sending me a free copy of this DVD for review. I can't thank you enough for that!
The effect of Twisted, is you borrow a bill, have it signed on the front, and tear it in half. You attempt to restore the bill, but when it is unfolded, it appears mis made! The signature is still on the bill, and the bill is shown on both sides. The bill is then clearly torn back in half, restored the right way, and handed back out. You end pretty darn clean.
I really, really love this effect. It is very clever. When I first heard about this, I though you would have to cut and destroy a bill or 2 to make the gimmick. You don't even cut a bill up at all. It's a simple gimmick that you can carry around everywhere, and use for every performance. This effect will work with ANY kind of paper money of any denomination. This is completely impromptu, if you have the gimmick with you. This is perfect for walk-around magic. When you perform this, you do have to be precise and careful. This is an easy effect, but you have to do it just right. I can't really say anymore without exposing anything. This is a real fooler, and can't be "just figured out". I'm sure you could also replicate this effect with a signed playing card, but that would be a stretch.
The DVD starts off with an the introduction. Andrew talks about what he likes about this effect, and about the impact it has.
Next, Andrew briefly goes over what the gimmick is, then explains in-depth how to make the gimmick with an over the shoulder view. The gimmick only takes a couple of minutes to make. I actually made my gimmick a bit differently, so you can "ungimmick" it.
Now, he teaches you how to perform this effect. He goes over it very thoroughly and it is very understandable. After that is the explanation in an over the shoulder view. This is even more understandable, and you can tell what is going on perfectly. Finally, to review what you have learned, there are still images of each step to make sure you are clear of everything.
There is a bonus effect called The Remixed Bill. In this effect, a borrowed bill is torn in half, and restored wrongly. This bill is given to the spectator as a souvenir in the mis made condition. This is even easier than the original version, and gives proof of the effect. Although the bill cannot be signed, it is still extremely strong. Andrew goes over how to make the mis made bill. It is a very simple process, but you do have to make a new gimmick each performance, but you never lose money doing it. Using the method of making this gimmick, you could also make the classic bill that is mis made at four sections. I really love this effect.
Also on the DVD, you can view demos of Andrew's past effects and DVD's.
All in all, I think this is another genius effect that goes right up there with Ghost Bills. It's a very clean and clever effect, and you will love it too. Please buy this DVD!
