[Vegas] Copperfield or Shin Lim – which one would you pick (as a magician)?

Hey everyone,

I’ll be in Vegas for just one day and I’ve got the chance to see either David Copperfield or Shin Lim.

I’m torn. On one hand, Shin Lim is an incredible magician and his reviews are consistently great. On the other, Copperfield is a legend, but I’ve read quite a few comments lately saying his show feels a bit dated and that he seems tired compared to the past.

As a magician, I feel like I’d have major FOMO skipping Copperfield, but I’m also worried I might end up disappointed if the show doesn’t live up to expectations.

Has anyone here seen either of them recently? Which one would you recommend?

So I ended up choosing David Copperfield, and honestly, the show was very impressive. I’m no expert in grand illusions, so I’m probably easier to fool, but the effects were incredible. He makes objects the size of a car appear in seconds, sometimes right above the audience, and I genuinely had no idea how half of those illusions were done. You can really tell he has decades of experience and a massive production budget that lets him pull off things most magicians simply couldn’t.

That said, it does feel like Copperfield himself isn’t enjoying being on stage anymore. He delivers his lines with little emotion or energy, and it’s hard not to notice. I honestly don’t get why he’s still doing two shows a day after so many years, especially since it doesn’t seem like he needs the money.

So, in short: the illusions are incredible, but Copperfield himself comes across as tired or maybe just over it.
