I use Sony Vegas for my video editing, and am becoming more skilled at it each time I use it. I do, however, have one question:

How on earth do you guys get a full white/full black background when you are filming? I've heard it called "the studio" before. How would I go about renting/using one, being an amateur filmmaker?

A normal white wall will suffice as long as you angle the camera correctly and keep it clear of anything.

My first video has a pure white background.
It reality, I filmed it on a light blue wall, in my room.
After you film, increase the contrast of the video, and then increase the brightness accordingly to make everything clear
For a black background, do similar but with a black sheet in the background or something.

A quicker alternative to that would be to use the chroma keyer function in Vegas and have your ideal solid colour in the track underneath.
