When To Show Each Trick

A lot of us have a big repertoire of tricks. Maybe cards, and maybe coins. So I am curious how you choose which tricks to perform, and when.

I personally look at how much time we have, if there is a table or not, and etc, but a lot of times, I just do the first thing that comes to mind.

But how do you choose?
When do you do cards, coins, ropes or etc?
Hopefully some of your ideas will help me and others out.

When I'm out at a mall or just hanging out on the streets I usually just jazz around doing effects as they come to mind. All the while trying to keep a common theme. I find that it helps me with improv sets, routining, and handling audiences.

As far as when I perform I just look for people who look bored and might need some entertainment.
