The Wire - Top Ten of 2014

Jon Raiker

With 125+ releases across all genres of magic and cardistry, 2014 was a HUGE year for The Wire. Many releases climbed the charts and claimed that coveted #1 spot - for good reason. With that in mind, we put together a quick list of our favorites in this annual round-up.

  1. Blackout by Nefesch - Using their OWN phone on speaker, the spectator calls a friend who reveals their random, freely selected card. Because this technique is so versatile, strong, and powerful, it had to be our number one pick. The reactions in the preview video speak for themselves. Simple, practical, and amazing.

  2. Watch by Jacques Le Sueur - A sure-fire technique for stealing a watch. If you have ever wanted to learn how to steal a spectator’s watch (with intent of returning it to them after), this is the perfect place to start. Jacques’ technique is one of the fastest and smoothest, and he is the only magician to have stolen Nelson Mandela’s watch... twice!

  3. Transcend by Michael James - A flashy, quick flourish that both cardists and magicians can perform. The long awaited follow up to Michael's previous creations - Rise and Twistor.

  4. Imaginary Ball by Matthew Mello - The performer drops an imaginary ball, and the spectator catches it perfectly with their eyes closed! If you are a fan of 'Lift' by Derren Brown, then you're going to love the eerie yet beautiful visual that 'The Imaginary Ball' creates. This brilliant method is explained in eight pages of intricate detail via PDF.

  5. Non-Toxic by Geraint Clarke - The spectator types in ANY sum on a phone calculator, and the answer is ALWAYS your telephone number! Learn the original toxic technique alongside Geraint’s new, flawless method for achieving the effect with any Android or iPhone. It is a substantial upgrade to the original toxic method that should be in your repertoire for when you have nothing on you but your phone.

  6. Breakthrough by Johannes Mengel - Slam a coin through the bottom of an empty can. Immediately show the coin inside and hand the can out! Johannes offers an excellent method for the coin in soda can plot that is ultra-clean, fully examinable, and uses no gimmicks. The coin can even be signed!

  7. Instinct by Alexander Ward - An impromptu effect where a spectator can text you anything. A word, name, number, picture, literally anything! You show the message to be unopened and impossible to read or know the information contained within. You then reveal the exact content of their message. With over an hour of instruction, this is one of the most powerful effects you can perform with your iPhone.

  8. S M C by Alvin Herp - iV presents a cardistry bundle containing three new card flourishes from the mind of Alvin Herp, with detailed instruction from multiple angles.

  9. Extra-Extra by Geraint Clarke - A piece of gum is chewed - then visually restored at your fingertips. Geraint offers a totally impromptu method for a stunningly visual piece of magic that is incredibly easy to learn and perform. If you have a pack of gum, you can do this effect anytime, anywhere.

  10. Two Ton Triumph by System 6 Magic - A super clean, direct and fooling method for triumph with no fishy moves. Six has streamlined the handling to keep it in the hands, clean, direct and simple. This is definitely the version of triumph that you need to learn.
