He is a full-time performer, but first and foremost he is a creator. He has been called the most creative magician of his generation, and his debut effect DRESSCODE became a best seller overnight. Since that time, Calen has served as a creative consultant for David Blaine, Dynamo, and David Copperfield.

How did you get started in magic?

A friend of mine in high school told me about this magic show that was going to be on TV that night. It ended up being David Blaine's 'Drowned Alive' special; I was completely blown away. At that moment I knew what I wanted to do.

Hmm...one of my favorites to watch is the Matrix Levitation - it just looks sick!

What is the last trick you saw that fooled the crap out of you?

The car production in Copperfield's live show. I think I have it figured out now though. ;)

What is your creative process when formulating a new effect?

I brainstorm to think of unique visual moments. Once I can see the visual moment in my mind, I start creating. Also, the aesthetics of how objects look together often influence me on what objects I create my magic with. It's kinda weird but it works for me.
