The effect and the method itself are quite original and might I say fooling. It's easy to learn and perform, and the price seems about right. The reason I gave the trick a 3/5 rating is because I have 2 major problems with it, which make the trick a tad impractical to perform during street-performances - the usual setting for organic earphones magic: 1. The effect is very angle-sensitive 2. Given the method, you may want to stick with using just your own earphones and not borrowing them from a spectator - that makes the trick in my opinion less impromptu and organic.
Jerusalem • Dec 30th, 2021I LOVED this trick. When he told us how to break the cord I was laughing my head off and it's such a brilliant trick. I was THRILLED to hear that it required NO extra pieces. Thank you Rick Lax and Theory 11!
California • Oct 9th, 2021A genius trick! The angles are a little sensitive but it’s a perfect trick for a one on one or a zoom/facetime call. Definitely a great effect
Kentucky, USA • Jul 29th, 2020Rick Lax is a genius! This is very well taught and a great effect. The best part is that it is completely impromptu and uses an everyday object. Because it is very angle sensitive, this effect is best when performed for one or two people.
Pennsylvania • Oct 11th, 2019I think this trick is really a fooler. I also think it is well explained and is almost impromptu.
Denver, Colorado • May 5th, 2019I saw a video of this move long before i started magic. I am not ashamed to say it fooled me completely. After getting the tutorial and learning the secret i as even more impressed. The methodology behind it is so ingenious and amazing that if done properly no one can find out the method behind that. The best part is, it uses something that is used every day and by everyone, so you can easily borrow a pair of earphones and fool them completely. The negative point is that it is really angle sensitive. If done in person, probably you can perform for 1 or 2 people staring right in front of you. Another problem is that there is a secret move you need to do which is unnatural at some times and places. Overall I guess it is by far the best thing that Rick Lax has ever published. Now, if you are looking for something to perform on the streets and fully surrounded it isn't for you. But if the limits that I mentioned don't bother you, it is probably worth picking up.
Woodbridge, New Jersey • May 16th, 2018Very angle-sensitive. It's strictly a one-on-one kind of trick. That's the main reason for my rating. For that one person, it'll be pretty good.
Dublin, Ohio • Apr 26th, 2018Excellent trick and great teaching. Rick Lax is a great teacher and has great advice and tips on how to do the trick that make it that much more convincing. This is a must buy for music lovers who have earbuds with them wherever they go and love to listen to music. The angles are tough sometimes but not a problem with some crowd control. Thanks!
Orlando, Florida • Sep 5th, 2016Very ingenious. I love the method, and I love the fact that you can even borrow the headphones. Thanks for the trick Rick!
France • Sep 3rd, 2016Clever impromptu trick. I have a couple other effects I do with headphones and ReCord is a perfect finale. Rick Lax is an amazing teacher and went into great detail in the video itself (covering each and every subtle motion with an explanation as to why he did what he did). Just be careful of your angles. You should do it to one or two people in front of you and not a group. Anyways, it was worth the price and I recommend it 100%!
Chantilly, Virginia • Jun 8th, 2016Wow! Rick Lax did an amazing job of teaching this effect. It is a very intimate performance, best suited for one person, and two at most. Using borrowed headphones is easy as cake! Good audience control is recommended to keep angles right, but overall, it's a great impromptu trick with a item I have on me all the time.
Utah • May 3rd, 2016Wow. The overall trick is impressive but the subtle nuances make it incredible. When watching the videos, I had to admire the amount of thinking that went into crafting this masterpiece. The instructions had me performing after the first viewing and I only improved by watching some parts in detail. The fact that it can be performed almost anyway makes this one of the most powerful illusions in my arsenal.
London • May 1st, 2016Rick Lax is such a great creator and teacher. Such a simple, yet devious method. Loved it!
Ottawa, Ontario • Apr 2nd, 2016Great trick, fun, impromptu and anyone could do it. The effect itself is brilliant but it's very angle sensitive, so as long as you only do it in front of no more than 2 people, you should be ok.
United Kingdom • Dec 23rd, 2014The effect is nice and very creative but the angles are just way too sensitive.
India • Apr 21st, 2014Really good effect that got me wondering how it's done. A must have, completely impromptu! Rick is an amazing teacher. Perfectly clear explanations !! Buy it without second thoughts!
Cernay, France • Apr 1st, 2014Well, what can I say ... Rick has pulled off a trick that when done as effortlessly as he demonstrates is quite astonishing. It's a nice trick to begin with, as far as object orientated and non-card magic goes. No gimmicks and the sleight involved is smooth and simple to grasp immediately. You and many other members of the public commonly walk around with the actual trick prop so to speak, so it's something you can easily break into, in-between sets or quite simply as a piece by itself. The tutorial follows the rest of Theory 11's work, and that's a massive credit to this video. It's quick, low cost and easy to achieve with practice. Fantastic!
United Kingdom • Feb 13th, 2014This trick is fun, impromptu, and virtually anyone can do it, and it still packs a big punch! The only problem is that it is very angle sensitive, but other than that, it is a great trick.
Houston • Dec 9th, 2013Easy, deceptive, and fun. Amazing reactions when you snap their ear-buds in two. Great work, Rick.
Dubai • Oct 17th, 2013Like many of Rick Lax's tricks, ReCord features a very clever method that many won't be able to figure out (so long as you do the trick well). It is very visual and is a great opening effect. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was due to the fact that it is a tad bit angle sensitive.
Virginia • Oct 8th, 2013This trick is very angle sensitive and requires a lot of practicing facing a mirror. It is an impromptu trick so it is useful to know but it is not something I do very often due to the sensitivity to angles. One on one, this trick does wonders.
Phoenix, Arizona • Sep 28th, 2013Nice trick and really creative, genius method. But sadly it has some angle issues. That wouldn't bother me though since this is so genius. If you do it to 1-3 people, it will freak them out - especially if you do it with their headphones.
Israel • Sep 19th, 2013Imagine that you are listening to music and a friend of yours approaches you. Show him an amazing impromptu effect that they will surely never forget!
Bulgaria • Sep 16th, 2013Amazing effect! I usually perform for two people at a time so this effect is just perfect for me. A reputation maker.
Madrid • Aug 13th, 2013Great effect and can be done to literally anyone you meet so the ultimate impromptu trick.
Alaska • Aug 3rd, 2013A genius method love this modern day effect.
Wigan • Aug 3rd, 2013Simply but mind blowing. Good job Rick!
Indonesia • Jul 30th, 2013A very cool trick. It requires some practice to make sure you control your angles but still it's a good trick for 1-2 people.
United States • Jul 29th, 2013It is incredibly angle sensitive but for one or two people, if the angles are right, you will have an amazing effect. Great work Rick!
Australia • Jul 17th, 2013Rick Lax, you are a genius. Very angle sensitive and it can only be done with a crowd of a couple of people, but it is very engaging and visual. Beautiful trick with a beautiful method. Another great creation from Rick Lax; this is a must buy for any type of magician. EASILY 10/10
