Branded - Need Feedback

Hello, there is an effect I've been toying with for a long time. It took me far too much effort to get it right and exact, but I think I'm almost where I want to be. I've created a PDF explaining the method of the trick, the set-up, and anything else you might need to know.

This is an easy to do effect with a "gimmick". I call it that because I promise it's not what you're thinking of, it's more of a quick set-up. Everything you need you should have. A deck of cards, yourself, and a match or lighter.

The effect: A card is selected by the spectator and placed back into the deck. As a second card is removed, an indifferent card; the performer clearly shows it is one, regular, card. A match is taken, lit, and rubbed across the face of the card. Slowly the value and symbol of the chosen card is “branded” into the indifferent card. All is immediately handed out for inspection and the card can be kept as a souvenir.

If you have any interest, please PM me your email address. All I ask for in return is some kind of feedback. Telling me "it sucked" is better than nothing. This is a real world working effect, created by myself. I do not know of any other effects that do the same thing, but if you know of one please give me information regarding it. Thank you.

You may want to check out "Burn" by Daniel Madison...sounds awfully familiar to some stuff in there.

Glad you brought it up, and I actually mention that in the PDF itself. I got the idea from burn. I really enjoyed Daniel Madison's version, but I wanted something more visual. Mine allows the spectator to see the burning happening to the card in real time with no cover. The methods really are not too similar at all, though.

Thanks for the input, again, glad you brought that up. :)

Edit: When saying burn, I meant Blaze, as found in his trilogy (available as a PDF on his site). My effect is much further away from burn, and the final looks not even close to the same.

Also, for clarity, the card literally and physically has the burn marks revealing the spectators chosen symbol/suit. They can be seen, felt, and smelled.

Thanks for the input, I'm seriously thinking about it. A variation would probably be the best thing to call it, but I'm not overly concerned as I'm not trying to market it. I'm just looking for feedback to improve my performances.

Thanks a lot.

Would you be able to post a video of a performance (for a real spectator)? I'd be more than happy to help, in that case. It's just hard for me to judge a written description of an effect...it doesn't say anything about the performance, just what the effect is theoretically supposed to look like. And I mean, even the ACR sounds silly on paper, but when actually seen in performance, it's a great effect (depending on who performs it, of course). :)

And yeah, like it was mentioned, whether marketed or not, it still sounds very much like a variation, heh. :)

I don't have a camera myself, but I will hopefully have some spare time to ask a friend help me with it this weekend.

Thanks for the input.

Yeah, we need a performance video to judge and critique your performance.

Some video/camera based stores will rent out a video camcorder.
