I would say this is the best way - using a crimp in the card is a nice way to easily find the card after a freely shuffled deck. Also, maybe the reason why your audience is asking to shuffling the deck is because they do not feel satisfied that you have done the job...

Its a nice idea, i think what you have come up with here is an application for the Svengali deck because the deck you described is basically that. So if you where interested in testing it out try getting a Svengali deck and it sounds as though it works nice with that.
