Is It Worth Joining The Magic Castle?

Ohio?!?! I wouldn't worry about joining the Magic Castle unless you know that you'll be in California often. If I were in your position I would join the local IBM and go to those lectures. Your local club should allow you to go to the magic castle anyways. There is a very strong magic...

    Right or Left handed?

If you hold the cards in your right hand then that is left handed. It's not bad it's just different. Eric Jones is left handed and I'm sure there are others as you can see above.

    Card Control/A. Buckley

There is some very good knuckle busting moves. Most of his effects in the book are just his takes on classics though.

Where Magic Becomes Pure Beautiful Art

Disneyland's attractions connect with you on an emotional level. Emotion is the key. I quote from earlier in the thread "My personal definition of art is this; the communication of how we feel". Disney inspires you to dream, it takes you to childhood, it makes a statement that we can do...

Where Magic Becomes Pure Beautiful Art

Is Disneyland art? Yes, absolutley. Is everything in a museum art? No. Historical significance is not connected to emotional impact.

What happened to the top hat?

The top hat and tails was adorned by John Henry Anderson "The Wizard of the North" in 1843. Robert Houdin Wasn't born until 1845. They were contemporaries though. John was one of the first to bring magic to a reputable theater. His act consisted of many of the certifiable classics including the...

Where Magic Becomes Pure Beautiful Art

The original post talks about the performance being art. Some argue that it's not. If it is art than it has the potential to communicate more than just entertainment. Entertainment is not worse than art just less substantial.

Camera tricks are okay to use in magic

Method is important. If we fail to fool our audience to some extent then we are only delivering good theater, but not necessarily good magic.

    Blake Vogt's "Ringer"

You might be able to go from a 5 to a 10 but I've never tried. The problem is that American money is all roughly the same color, where Canadian money changes from bill to bill. Also the size of the index is different than in US money and the ring may not look as nice.

    Teaching

We are talking about the same prices. 15 dollars for a half hour IS 30 dollars for an hour. Sorry to be misunderstood :) I meant to point out that you need to be providing more than the student can learn in a book or a DVD. Routining, scripting, character, audience involvment, and you need to...

    Teaching

For 25 bucks a lesson you need to be providing a lot! They could buy a new DVD every week they had a lesson with you. I took violin, piano and voice lessons as a kid through out high school. They were all weekly lessons and they were 7-15 dollars a week for a half our hour lesson. If you began...
